Character name: Clint Barton
Fandom: Marvel Universe
Timeline: from the end of The Avengers
Age: 37ish? (headcanon)
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: no magic, but Hawkeye is widely considered the best marksman in the world. He has incredible long-distance vision, is skilled at hand-to-hand combat, and is rather famous for being able to turn anything into a weapon.
How would they use their abilities?: That depends on a number of things. With the other Avengers in game, probably for the good, but Clint is a survivor, and he won’t hesitate to do what he needs to keep himself and the people he cares about safe.
Appearance: 5’8” or thereabouts, muscular (especially his arms), dark blond hair and blue eyes. He tends to keep his expression bland unless he’s either trying to convince you he’s feeling something or he trusts you enough to let you see what he’s actually feeling.

or so (I could happily do this all day long, so I will stop now.)
Background/Personality:

Clint’s parents both died in a car crash when he was very young. His father had been an abusive asshole, and his mother incredibly distant, so he likes to act like this was not the tragedy it actually was. He and his older brother, Barney, were put into a children’s home until they both ran away to the circus as teenagers. They worked mostly as roustabouts for Carson Carnival of Traveling Wonders until Clint was taken in by the Swordsman, one of the carnival’s performers, who taught him to work with bladed weapons and later by Trickshot, who saw Clint’s innate ability and molded him into the greatest marksman in the world. He started performing as Hawkeye.

He stayed with the circus until he came across Swordsman one day counting through the money he’d stolen from the circus. He offered to make Clint his partner in crime, but Clint refused. They fought, and the Swordsman eventually left him for dead after he fell from the highwire. When Clint told Barney what had happened, Barney abandoned him as well, amazed that he hadn’t taken the Swordsman up on his offer.

Trickshot became Clint’s mentor at this point and eventually pulled him into using his ability to help take down a criminal. During the mission, he wounded one of the criminal’s guards, who turned out to be Barney. Clint was horrified at what he’d done and he left Trickshot.

Clint made his living for a while by traveling from circus to circus and otherwise using his abilities to make money. He ended up working as an assassin and eventually ran into Black Widow, who got him into some criminal activity which he agreed to in an attempt to impress her.

Later, his talent earned him the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he was recruited as an agent with them. He ended up recruiting Black Widow to the organization as well after he’d been sent to kill her. Through his work with S.H.I.E.L.D., he was recruited to the Avengers Initiative and helped them defeat Loki and the Chitauri.

On the outside, Clint is a smartass. He always has a snarky comment, and it quite often gets him in trouble.

But he figures that’s better than the other option, which is actually letting people get to know him.

Because his parents died when he was so young (not to mention having been left by his mentors and his brother) he has some abandonment issues. Running away to the circus was kind of a way to deal with that. He clings tightly to the people he cares about, hence staying with his brother even when his brother proved he didn’t really care so much about Clint, but he tries to hide that side of him anymore. He fully expects that everyone in his life will disappoint him at some point, and that if they really get a glimpse of what goes on in his head, they’ll run out on him like everyone else has.

What is really going on in his head is a constant litany telling himself he’s not good enough. He plays the cocky bad boy, but if he isn’t absolutely perfect, he’s disappointed in himself and expects everyone else to be. This is why marksmanship is such a big thing for him. Bulls-eye perfection every time is something he can achieve there.

He pushes people away while simultaneously trying to prove he’s good enough to them. He craves appreciation, and when he doesn’t get it, he tries harder and harder until he does. And then he doesn’t trust its sincerity.

The one person in his life who gets behind this barrier of his is Natasha. She’s the only one he trusts not to abandon him if he’s not perfect. He still wonders about her sometimes, but mostly he trusts her implicitly. (Sometimes he feels this way about Coulson too, but Coulson is still a part of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he definitely doesn’t trust S.H.I.E.L.D.)

To strangers, he’s friendly but distant, but he’s pretty good at making people think he likes them if only so he can exploit them if necessary.

He’s done a lot of things he’s not exactly proud of, but he isn’t ashamed of that. He knows he has lines he won’t cross, and it doesn’t really matter to him if other people realize that or not.
