Comic booking it

Clint was not one to frequent comic shops. In fact, he usually stayed as far away from them as possible--not because, like the other Avengers, he was afraid he might be recognized, but because he was pretty certain he wouldn't be, and that got a little old after a while.

But Coulson had been moping because he couldn't get in to get his Captain America comics for a couple months, and Clint didn't like to see Coulson moping, so he decided to stop by and pick them up for the agent. He'd probably just drop them on his desk when Coulson wasn't around, but at least he knew it would make the man smile.

Clint takes a deep breath and crosses his arms.

"But..." Blaine says. He can't finish though because there's a pounding at the door. The police had arrived.

Clint looks straight at Blaine's dad. "You wanna get that?"

Blaine's dad glares at him and then leaves the room to get the door for the police.

"Did you really hurt my dad?" Blaine asks, frowning.

"Yeah, I did," Clint says calmly.

[mediumdrip]

"Why?" Blaine asks, as they hear the police starting to come up the stairs.

[from_a_distance]

"Because he hurt you," Clint says, seemingly ignoring the sound of the police. "And that makes him a bad guy in my book."

Blaine just frowns at the idea as the police come up and tell Clint that he's going to have to come with them.

Clint nods at them. "I will, on one condition. I don't want this kid left alone with his dad."

Not that he thinks the man is in any condition to hurt Blaine right now, but he's not going to take that chance.

"Would you like to file a report of child abuse?"

Clint's jaw clenches. The idea of Blaine going into the system weighs against the thought of leaving him with his dad.

"Yeah," he says eventually, glancing over to Blaine. "Yeah, I do."

The police officer nods. "How about we leave the kid to get back to bed? We can file a report and a social worker will be here tomorrow."

"This is ridiculous!" yells Blaine's dad, but he has no choice but to go with the other men as they go back downstairs.

"You'll leave an officer with him?" Clint asks, nodding.

"We'll figure something out," the police man promises. They end up spending a lot of the night sorting out all of the accusations being made. Blaine's dad doesn't help his case by responding emotionally and screaming at them all.

When the sun comes up Blaine ends up coming down on his own, fully dressed and ready for school. He's actually really excited about going to school in a police car, mostly because he's completely unaware of how much of a mess his life might become very soon if the system ends up taking him.

Clint calls in Coulson to help him out, because if anyone can get him off in this case, it's his handler, and it never hurts to have a character reference from Captain America.

He spends most of the night worrying about Blaine and hoping this doesn't get back to Fury.
