Comic booking it

Clint was not one to frequent comic shops. In fact, he usually stayed as far away from them as possible--not because, like the other Avengers, he was afraid he might be recognized, but because he was pretty certain he wouldn't be, and that got a little old after a while.

But Coulson had been moping because he couldn't get in to get his Captain America comics for a couple months, and Clint didn't like to see Coulson moping, so he decided to stop by and pick them up for the agent. He'd probably just drop them on his desk when Coulson wasn't around, but at least he knew it would make the man smile.

Clint is just chilling in the man's chair, looking for all the world like this is his house and it's the other guy who's intruding here.

"I figured somebody should watch after your kid since you fucked that up on your own."

"Did you hurt Blaine? Or touch him? Is this how you get off? Attack some poor guy and spend the night with his kid?"

"I fed him and put him to bed," Clint says calmly, a steely tone in his voice from the implication that he would possibly do something worse to Blaine than what this guy has been doing. "And don't try to go all noble and offended on me, asshole, of the two of us, you're the one who's been hurting him, and you're the one he should be able to count on not to."

"I'm allowed to discipline my own son," he countered. "What you did was assault."

Clint is on his feet and in the guy's face in under a second. "What you did, what you do is abuse. I had a dad just like you, you little shit, and I know all the fucking bullshit guys like you pull out to make it okay that you like to beat up little kids. So don't talk to me about discipline, asswipe. You're just some douchebag who never grew out of being a bully."

"You have no idea what my family has been though. Leave right now or I'll call the police."

"I don't give a shit what your family has been through. Nothing gives you the right to do what you've been doing to him," Clint growls. "And go ahead and call them. Let's see who they listen to, huh?"

Not that Clint thinks they'll listen to him. He's got a record a mile long. Or he did, before SHIELD fixed it for him. But he's also got Captain America and Tony Stark on speed dial.

Blaine's father moves to the phone, apparently not considering how he's going to dial with his hands wrapped up.

Clint just crosses his arms over his chest and watches him.

It takes him a while of fumbling to realize he can put a pen in his mouth and use it, but he looks like a fool working so hard to use the phone.

And Clint is definitely amused, but he wants to see just how far this guy gets, so he's going to keep watching, looking not at all concerned about the possibility of the police showing up.

When Blaine's dad gets the police he explains his situation, that there is a man who assaulted him in his house and is refusing to leave.

"Don't forget to tell him how you were whaling on your kid earlier, man," Clint reminds him helpfully.

Blaine's dad ignores him as he gives the dispatcher his address and asks them to hurry.

"What now?" Clint asks with a smirk. "Should we sit down for coffee while we wait?"

"Stay away from me," the man says as he moves to go to Blaine's room.

He huffs out a laugh and follows because there is no way he's letting this guy alone with Blaine right now. (Possibly ever, but he's still working out the details on that.)

Blaine is asleep in his bed, having passed out right after Clint left him. His father wakes him up harshly and demands to know if Clint touched him.

Blaine just looks confused and sleepy. "No, dad. He's an Avenger not a bad guy," he answers.

Clint smiles from where he's leaning against Blaine's door frame, watching the man's reaction carefully.

His dad stares for a moment and looks back at Clint. "What kind of lies have you been putting into his head?"

He smirks. "You go ahead and think that's a lie, buddy."

[mediumdrip]

He shakes his head and gets up again. "You stay away from my kid!" he demands.

"Dad?" Blaine asks as he gets more and more awake. "What happened to your hands?"

Clint's face goes stony as he watches. He's not ashamed of what he did, but he doesn't need Blaine thinking he's anything like his dad.

"Your friend beat me up and broke my fingers, Blaine," he dad explains. "Still think he's 'not a bad guy'?"

Blaine looks over at Clint, as if expecting Clint to deny that he did something like that.

Clint takes a deep breath and crosses his arms.
