Comic booking it

Clint was not one to frequent comic shops. In fact, he usually stayed as far away from them as possible--not because, like the other Avengers, he was afraid he might be recognized, but because he was pretty certain he wouldn't be, and that got a little old after a while.

But Coulson had been moping because he couldn't get in to get his Captain America comics for a couple months, and Clint didn't like to see Coulson moping, so he decided to stop by and pick them up for the agent. He'd probably just drop them on his desk when Coulson wasn't around, but at least he knew it would make the man smile.

Clint takes a moment to check the house for threats, out of habit more than perceived necessity. He makes his way to Blaine's room just as Blaine is getting into bed.

"So...how do you usually do this? Story? Nightlight?"

"No," Blaine says, confused by how attentive Clint is. "Dad is usually asleep by now. He sleeps on the couch."

"Yeah, I bet," Clint mutters, thinking how bad off this kid is. At least he had a mom who was usually good to him, even if she didn't stick up for him. And Barney.

He frowns at the thought as he moves toward Blaine's bed.

"Well, how 'bout I just tuck you in, then?"

Blaine moves to the bed then and looks up at Clint curiously. "Are you really an Avenger?" If that's true, then Clint can't be a bad guy at all, can he?

Clint smiles. "Yeah, kid. I really am an Avenger."

Blaine nods, accepting that. He feels okay having Clint tuck him in then and is able to go to sleep without worrying.

Yeah, Clint is definitely going to have to teach this kid about not believing everything people tell him, but since it serves his purposes for now, he's not going to mention it. Once he gets Blaine tucked in, he heads back to the living room to wait for his dad.

The man comes home very late at might. His hands are wrapped up in casts and his wounds have mostly been patched up and bandages. He is sore and uncomfortable as he comes into the house and freezes instantly when he sees Clint.

"Decided to finish the job?"

Clint is just chilling in the man's chair, looking for all the world like this is his house and it's the other guy who's intruding here.

"I figured somebody should watch after your kid since you fucked that up on your own."

"Did you hurt Blaine? Or touch him? Is this how you get off? Attack some poor guy and spend the night with his kid?"

"I fed him and put him to bed," Clint says calmly, a steely tone in his voice from the implication that he would possibly do something worse to Blaine than what this guy has been doing. "And don't try to go all noble and offended on me, asshole, of the two of us, you're the one who's been hurting him, and you're the one he should be able to count on not to."

"I'm allowed to discipline my own son," he countered. "What you did was assault."

Clint is on his feet and in the guy's face in under a second. "What you did, what you do is abuse. I had a dad just like you, you little shit, and I know all the fucking bullshit guys like you pull out to make it okay that you like to beat up little kids. So don't talk to me about discipline, asswipe. You're just some douchebag who never grew out of being a bully."

"You have no idea what my family has been though. Leave right now or I'll call the police."

"I don't give a shit what your family has been through. Nothing gives you the right to do what you've been doing to him," Clint growls. "And go ahead and call them. Let's see who they listen to, huh?"

Not that Clint thinks they'll listen to him. He's got a record a mile long. Or he did, before SHIELD fixed it for him. But he's also got Captain America and Tony Stark on speed dial.

Blaine's father moves to the phone, apparently not considering how he's going to dial with his hands wrapped up.

Clint just crosses his arms over his chest and watches him.

It takes him a while of fumbling to realize he can put a pen in his mouth and use it, but he looks like a fool working so hard to use the phone.

And Clint is definitely amused, but he wants to see just how far this guy gets, so he's going to keep watching, looking not at all concerned about the possibility of the police showing up.

When Blaine's dad gets the police he explains his situation, that there is a man who assaulted him in his house and is refusing to leave.

"Don't forget to tell him how you were whaling on your kid earlier, man," Clint reminds him helpfully.

Blaine's dad ignores him as he gives the dispatcher his address and asks them to hurry.

"What now?" Clint asks with a smirk. "Should we sit down for coffee while we wait?"

"Stay away from me," the man says as he moves to go to Blaine's room.

He huffs out a laugh and follows because there is no way he's letting this guy alone with Blaine right now. (Possibly ever, but he's still working out the details on that.)
